ABOUT INET

  1. INET was born out of the first successful Irish Everest Expedition in 1993.

  2. It raises money to provide educational opportunities for people living in remote villages in the lap of Mount Everest high up in the Solu Khumbu region of the Nepalese Himalaya. INET aims to improve education development for the local people and there are many kind individuals, mountaineering clubs and other groups supporting this work.

INET is run on a completely voluntary basis by a small board of directors in Ireland. The educational development work in Nepal is managed by Dhana Khaling Rai who was on the 1993 Irish Everest Expedition. With his team of volunteers in Kathmandu and the Solu Khumbu, they co-ordinate INET’s work ensuring that all valuable and generous contributions are used in the most efficient way possible. INET’s overheads are minimal and nearly every Euro raised goes to projects in Nepal. A Euro goes a very long way in Nepal!

Dawson Stelfox MBE, the first Irishman to climb Mount Everest, is Patron of INET. In his role as an architect, Dawson designed a simple school building which was built in Phuleli in the Solu district with funds raised by pupils and staff of Alexandra College Dublin and INET supporters.
